The Proposed Redevelopment Layout

The proposed redevelopment layout

Current facilities

Dulwich Islamic Centre & Mosque is at the heart of South East London, in the London borough of Southwark, serving a diverse community for over 30 years!

Alhamdulillah, Dulwich Islamic Centre & Mosque  has been granted planning permission to create a new floor at the basement level with a new layout of the existing building. The new design layout will provide a larger prayer area and space for other facilities.

The building is in a poor condition and requires urgent updating, which is why we decided to modernise with the new layout.

New facilities

Prayer area for women

currently there are no facilities available for ladies as our mosque doesn’t have sufficient space

Expanded space for teaching area
More prayer space
More toilets and wudu area for brothers and sisters
Visitor area for non-Muslims, guests and well wishers

The newly approved redevelopment plans for

Dulwich Islamic Centre & Mosque

The new Front Elevation of Dulwich Islamic Centre & Mosque  will have a completely new look to how it looks currently. The Ground Floor entrance will be rebuilt to look like a traditional shopfront, with timber framed glazing and new hard wearing timber doors.

The First Floor windows will also be replaced with more traditional style timber framed glazing. This new look will conform to the area of East Dulwich and help blend Dulwich Islamic Centre blend in with its surroundings.

The New Rear Elevation will have a very pleasing look, with geometric style obscure glazing for both the Ground Floor and First Floor windows, which look directly into the Prayer halls on the Ground and First Floors.

Also, the Rear Entrance Door will also be replaced with a more traditional looking door, to complement with the new look.

The above Plan shows the proposed Cross Section of the proposed redevelopment of Dulwich Islamic Centre.

It shows that from the main lobby, the Men’s Wudu and WC facilities will be shifted to the newly excavated Basement floor. This will also lead to a newly developed Multi-purpose hall, which can be used for prayers, classes and meetings.

Also, you can see that on the Ground Floor, there will be a single level Multi-purpose hall stretching out to the far end of the premises.

The First Floor will have a redeveloped office, a meeting room, a new classroom and an external emergency escape staircase, which will lead to the rear of the premises. The roof of the premises will comprise of traditional slanted roofing and new style flat roofing as well. The First Floor will also accommodate a dedicated Prayer area for Women to use on a permanent basis, also with newly built Wudu and WC facilities exclusively for women to use.
